Penguin Enclosure Glass Installation

Chessington World of Adventures

Location: Chessington, Surrey
Client: Merlin Entertainments
Service: Toughened Laminated Glass Replacement & Underwater Glazing

Hamilton Glass Products were appointed to carry out specialist glazing works at the Penguin Enclosure in Chessington World of Adventures, one of the UK’s leading zoo and theme park attractions.

The works included the removal and replacement of a large toughened laminated glass panel in a high-traffic area, providing a secure barrier between the penguin habitat and public walkways. The glass was manufactured to order, combining toughened safety glass with a laminated interlayer for enhanced strength, security, and durability – a critical requirement in zoo glazing applications.

We also undertook sealing and maintenance works to the front-facing underwater viewing windows. These submerged panels needed resealing with marine-grade glazing sealants to ensure long-term watertight performance in a continuously wet environment.

All works were completed under strict site conditions, including controlled access to the animal enclosure and timed working windows to minimise disruption to both the animals and the visiting public. The glazing was installed by our experienced team of commercial glass specialists, fully compliant with industry standards for structural safety, animal welfare, and public interaction.

Whether you're dealing with a damaged zoo panel, aquarium glass, or specialist laminated glazing for enclosures, Hamilton Glass Products offers expert solutions tailored to complex environments.

Link Bridge Glazing – Chessington Safari & Aztec Hotels

Location: Chessington World of Adventures Resort
Client: Merlin Entertainments
Service: High-Level Window Installation with Specialist Lifting Equipment

As part of our ongoing work with Chessington World of Adventures Resort, Hamilton Glass Products completed a complex window installation project on the raised link bridge connecting the Safari Hotel and the Aztec Hotel.

This installation involved supplying and fitting large toughened glass units into the structural steel framework of the enclosed bridge — an elevated walkway above ground level that connects the two hotel buildings.

Due to the height, weight, and access restrictions of the location, the glazing process required the use of specialist lifting equipment, including suction lifters and hoists, to safely position the panels. Our team coordinated closely with site management to ensure all lifting operations were compliant with health & safety protocols, and that disruption to hotel guests and staff was kept to an absolute minimum.

The job required careful logistical planning, with access equipment brought in during off-peak hours and each glass unit lifted and installed in precise sequence. All panels were fitted with high-performance sealants to ensure weatherproofing and structural integrity.

This type of project highlights our expertise in hotel glazing, high-access installations, and the handling of oversized glass units in logistically challenging environments.
